Washington June 4 Senator Beveridge accused the American Tobacco Company of draining millions from the treasury by not adjusting tobacco package sizes after the war revenue law repeal. He said his amendment could raise over 21.6 million dollars in revenue and expose the trust s wage against taxes. He compared tobacco taxation with other nations and cited the company s monopolistic power and past buying of competitors to suppress independent rivals. He urged voting on the amendment but it was withdrawn after consideration.
