Georgia to Pay Teachers Monday With State Borrowed Funds

Governor Candler plans to pay teachers on Monday using $200,000 borrowed from Georgia banks and $962,000 cash in the treasury. R. E. Park arranged $75,008 from Savannah banks and $123,000 from Atlanta sources. Interest rates are stated as low, with a total of about 89 percent of wages expected to be covered. New warrants will be issued to reflect the partial payments, and the issue may push consideration of county tax support and constitutional changes at the upcoming legislature.
