Miners Clash in Matewan Gap Widened by Shootout

In Matewan West Virginia on a June strike 700 union miners attempted to enter Maritime mines where non union workers were employed. Superintendent Lambert ordered guards to fire after warnings. Two union men Boyd Martin and Riley Johnson were killed and Sam Artrip wounded. Unionists dispersed vowing vengeance as Sheriff Hatfield with deputies stands ready.

Arson Fraud Probe Closes in Chicago Great Jury Bonds Set

Hail Ruins Crops Across Delaware County Indiana

In Munroe Indiana on June 20 a severe hailstorm swept southeastern Delaware County causing extensive losses estimated in the thousands of dollars. Wheat corn and fruit crops were damaged, fruit trees broken and the strawberry crop destroyed. About fifty farmers are financially ruined with total losses around thirteen thousand dollars.
