Accidental Business Women Succeed Through Chance and Skill
A survey of women in advertising at the A A C W conference finds most started as stenographers or took over family business after a husband’s death. A bank president giving a job in advertising launched one delegate’s career. The study argues exceptional talent, not mere training, drives success, with stenography a common first step toward leadership. The Oklahoma City gathering and New York delegates illustrate varying paths and the conference aims to build prestige and support for women in advertising.

Harris Seeks Freight Cut on Watermelons and Perishables
Senator Harris of Georgia presses for reduced freight rates on watermelons and other perishables to aid the current crop. Clark of the ICC and Green of the Southern Freight Rate association indicate consideration will be given, with transcontinental lines having acted first. Clark warns the ICC cannot order a rate cut without a formal proceeding, but urges carriers to voluntary reductions if financially viable. Green plans to present the matter to initial carrier in Georgia. Resolutions from Georgia churches and women voters urge disarmament and a conference to reduce armament.
