United States Steel Kept From Abuses in FTC Case
United States Steel Corporation and eleven subsidiaries filed an answer to the Federal Trade Commission complaint alleging unfair interstate commerce practices. The case moves to trial on merits before the Commission with a ruling on possible desistance orders and focuses on claims of price fixing, monopolies, and control of raw materials. The company cites a March 1920 Supreme Court ruling in its defense and argues no monopoly exists in ore, coal, rail, or steel markets.
