Jury Deadlocked in Canton Trial Over Sheriff’s Death

In Canton Georgia bailiff Charlie Loggins was shot by F H Daniels after alleged earlier robberies. the jury after long deliberation remained deadlocked around May 24. Daniels testified he fired only after Loggins threatened him. witnesses described a tense confrontation and pursuit by Sheriff Floyd Blackwall and his son. The case could yield a mistrial as jurors stayed unable to agree on murder or self defense.

Senate approves large ship board appropriation amid graft charges

No Rain Forecast Extended Drought Worsens for Atlanta

First White House of Confederacy Formally Dedicated

Montgomery Alabama June 3 In an appropriate celebration of Jefferson Davis birthday the first white house of the Confederacy was formally dedicated by the Daughters of the Confederacy and others. The ceremony drew visitors from across the South and several states as the Davis mansion on Bibb and Lee Streets was opened and the White House Association outlined plans to preserve the historic home as a shrine to the Confederate era.

Engineers Score Industrial Waste

Trenton Ga June 3 Chester Daniel is dead and Doug and Guff Daniel wounded as Deputy Sheriff Ward Page is jailed on murder charges after an incident in a local store. Witnesses say Page shot Chester Daniel in the neck and chest, then fired on Doug and Guff. Guff struck Page with a bottle, and Page fired again, wounding all three.
