A McDonough bound combination train collided with another engine near Atlanta, killing Mrs. Lemon, her daughter, and Mr. Vickers. Bodies were sent to McDonough and Patterson's undertakers, with survivors and relatives preparing for burial and inquiries continuing.
A derailment on the Southern road near McDonough derailed a Macon Fort Valley passenger train. Three killed Mrs A A Lemon and her daughter Irma of McDonough and H H Vickers of Flovilla. Dozens injured. Yard conductor G B Dunton arrested. he denies being on the engine. Investigators seek cause as scene described with overturned coach and damaged Pullman sleeper.
Dunton a yard conductor at North avenue yards of the Southern denied involvement in a collision with a passenger train. He was arrested for disorderly conduct and placed in a cell awaiting Recorder Broyles. Tests and statements point to his absence from the engine, with testimony expected from a switchman and other yard workers. Several passengers were injured, including A. F. Bunn of McDonough, while crew and other travelers suffered various hurts.
Washington reports say the cabinet unanimously ruled no need for a summer extra session of Congress. They affirmed President the Spooner amendment gives ample power for governing the Philippines and announced a full civil government will start next month with a Philippine tariff following the commission’s plans.
Relatives and friends say Robert Gibbons Bidwell of Jacksonville Florida appeared unsettled for months. He left a car, waved two American flags, wore a life preserver, and his body was found in the East River, likely dead an hour. Letters seen at the scene included a note from his mother and papers from Jacksonville Times Union.
A train wreck caused by a derailed engine shattered the scene as rescuers worked amid cries and steam hiss. Passengers aided each other while doctors and police investigated the cause and moved the injured. One child died after being freed. several men were injured, including a worker who died from a head wound.
Jacksonville report says Sol Kee killed in a quarrel over five cents at a bar area restaurant. The victim, a Chinese man, died after a dispute about paying for a tie. A letter from the mother described the tragedy and a pastel card found on the slain man bore a Washington address. The Jacksonville Times-Union clipping notes lectures on several subjects. Robert Gibbons Bidwell of Arlington and Orlando links emerge. Bidwell previously suspected unstable. Continued on third page.
