Slack Admits Billion Dollar Offer Too High
Silver Creek, N Y June 2 James We Stick a local manufacturer who offered the shipping board a billion dollars for the United States naval fleet admitted he had no intention of paying that sum. He thought chairman Lasker's estimate fair and believed he could pay 50 million for the outfit given a 50 million fiscal year loss. He planned to bond regardless, while Twitchell of Syracuse sought information on Slack and his company financial backing. He denied the publicity motive and cited years of government business. New York consumes more than twenty five tong of salt a day.
