Negro Prisoner Oversees Drunken Deputy on Train
In Fitzgerald Georgia on July 18 a prisoner from Macon aided by a Negro inmate secured the deputy Sheriff, who was drunk and unable to disembark. The deputy, his grip, revolver, handcuffs and a quart of whisky remained with the prisoner until police intervened and jailed the intoxicated officer.

Lynching Case Being Argued in Anson County
In Charlotte, July 1, defense in the case of twenty Anson county citizens charged with the May 28 1906 lynching of John V Johnson concluded with teetimony offered and argument begun. Witnesses sought to discredit Sheriff Bogan and Kendall the lyncher who turned state's evidence. Cross examinations attacked Kendall's character while others corroborated alibis and the sheriff's statements. Charles Shockley of Statenboro Ga died suddenly at home after being up town, a University of Virginia law graduate and descendant of Thomas Cobb of Georgia. He leaves a wife and daughter.
