Hiers Murder Case Faces Doubt From Grand Jury
Moultrie Ga January 21 Special The grand jury investigating the murder of M Carden adjourned without indictments as it doubts the confessions of Mr and Mrs Wall Hiers who said the farmer fired the fatal shot. The dead man was held in high esteem while witnesses rejected the couple’s sensational tale of alleged prior mistreatment. Mrs Hiers said her mother and brother Tom Carden knew of alleged improper relations, but they denied it. The state pursues a theory that Carden was killed by an outsider, with Will Hiers unable to act without Tom Carden’s involvement, given he was in the house. Hiers is held as a suspect.
