A reported congress of Mexican revolutionaries near Cordoba ordered death and destruction against Americans and property. Officials in Washington note the move follows a Cordoba convention involving Villa Zapata and others, with continued risk as Carranza gatekeepers act. Officials say details are scarce and reports of Villa’s capture are unconfirmed as of now.
Washington January 21 John Skelton Williams comptroller of the currency told the House Rules Committee in support of the Howard resolution for an investigation into usurious rates charged by some national banks. He urged that the Department of Justice be authorized to sue banks charging excessive interest and noted complaints mainly from the south and southwest. Williams suggested publishing bank loan and rate data might deter usury, but no decision was reached as the committee took no action.
Mrs. J Van Holt Nash died Friday evening after a short illness in a local hospital. She was a Georgia family member, daughter of the late William H. Howard of Augusta, moved to Atlanta as a child, married General Nash four years ago, and is survived by Adjutant General Nash, three sons, and two sisters. The body was taken to her Burt Lake home and funeral plans were not announced.

Rome Ga January 21 Special One Floyd Superior Court case ended pleasantly when an investigation relieved Sheldon Sims Floyd county farmer and grand juror of contempt of court. The juror said conditions made it useless to continue but said he spoke jokingly and had no intention to defy the court. Judge Wright expressed pleasure no contempt was intended or committed.
Louis Blanchetti, arrested in New York and confessing to the January murder of Delores Evans in a Weveland hotel room, was escorted through cheering crowds to the county jail after being brought from a New York train. He is indicted for murder in the Girat side area.
Berlin advices report Allied troops landed at Piraeus Phaleron near Athens, a four mile distant resort area. Interpretation suggests Entente aims to overthrow the Greek government and replace it with Venizelos at its head. Piraeus is Greece’s second largest city with a large harbor.
In Chicago a bandit with a woman accomplice robbed the Thomas A. Cook & Son tourist agency of $200 this afternoon wounding cashier Ernest L. Walsh and killing Officer B A. Johnson. The pair fled via taxi after a fierce shootout on State and Jackson streets as shoppers nearby fled. Police described the crime as one of the city’s darkest in years.
Henry Williams aged 45 formerly baggage master for Atlantic Coast Line in Waycross was shot and killed at 9 PM by M P Reaves at Reaves home on Folks Street. Witnessed by Mrs Reaves, Reaves told neighbor to tend to his wife then surrendered to Sheriff Pittman. Williams frequented the home, leaving eggs and butter with the Reaves. Reaves worked at Coast Line in Waycross shops. Williams wife and five children survive.
A. J. Trumbo, a Oaxaca mine owner, arrived in El Paso reporting a passenger train blown up near Puebla with 23 dead and only one survivor. He said Mexican officers extorted money and described dire conditions and typhus outbreaks in southern and central Mexico during the journey from Mexico City.
Eight of twenty four convicts escaped from the Cummins state farm Wednesday night and were still at large late tonight. They were reported to have robbed the freight depot at Moscow and seized arms and ammunition. Five were recaptured yesterday and another today amid rain and exposure.

Gulfport Mississippi January 1 a man who gave his name as G W Atwell but police say is G W Tidwell of Greenville SC under seven year sentence for manslaughter in the South Carolina penitentiary was arrested on a white slave charge and is being held for federal authorities at Pensacola Florida. Greenville NC January 21 G W Tidwell also known as G T Atwell was convicted here about two years ago for killing R Emmett Walken a prominent young man and was sentenced to seven years in state prison He posted bail of 5000 and disappeared since his bondsmen have been seeking him.

New York January 21 Supreme Court Justice Newberger denied an application by Mrs Nora Stanton Blatch daughter of Mrs Harriet Stanton Blatch for a court order directing the American Society of Civil Engineers to admit her as an associate member. Blatch the first woman to earn a civil engineering degree from Cornell University was a former junior member of the society but was dropped under the rule prohibiting membership in that grade after age 32.
