Death of former Charlottesville mayor marks end of McCue case
Charlottesville, Va. February 1905 Former mayor Samuel McCue was hanged for his wife Fannie M McCue's murder after a drawn out trial. He confessed before the scaffold attributing his act to an evil genius over which he had no control. The morning execution drew a sparse crowd as officers prepared the trap and the sheriff kept the time secret. McCue's long case included juror costs of nearly $1860 and appeals up to the potential US Supreme Court review.
