One killing, four highway robberies and four burglaries keep police on the run all day. Twenty eight arrests are made for carrying pistols as crowds disperse. Many are held on charges of shooting firecrackers and scores are arrested as drunks.
Police reported 258 arrests between 4 p.m. Christmas Eve and 10 p.m. Christmas night, compared with 168 last year for the period. Among the cases, 83 were for drunkenness, 28 for carrying or discharging firearms, and 21 for shooting fireworks on the streets. Grady Hospital officials said about forty African American celebrants arrived with knife or pistol wounds.
A spree of murder, four highway robberies and four burglaries kept police busy over Christmas. A negro with a shotgun killed a friend on Mitchell Haines, pursued by detectives Webb, Harper and Wiley, and Chester Arnold later arrested. other robberies and gunfire harmed residents near Decatur and Hillard. Miss Elmy Vining and Miss Willie Walls reported purse snatches. Dozens more arrests followed as revelers fired shots, with many granted bail.
A wartime shipment from Galveston to Bremen aboard the Pathfinder carried 5 6050 bales valued at 455 000 dollars. The unloading was witnessed by the French consul and a Lloyds representative who certified the cargo as American cotton with free passage. Freight reached a record 3 dollars per 100 pounds, far above last year’s 22 to 35 cents.
In Ellijay Georgia on December 25 a 19 year old Frank Hamby attacked Roy Cobb with a knife in a barber shop then obtained a pistol and shot at pedestrians across town. He wounded J G Cole at Cole's drug store and Herschel Teem before being shot in the chest by a bystander. Teem died from his injuries. Hamby survived but is not expected to recover. Reports say he was intoxicated at the time.
Tokyo reports that Emperor Yoshihito dissolved the diet after the house rejected government army expansion measures. Dramatic closing session. budget for 1915 faced strong opposition with 566,000,000 yen expenditure and 40.5 million loss in revenue. Diet convened December. foreign minister Baron Kato urged unity amid wartime crisis.
Theo Lee a 14 year old was blinded when a lighted cannon cracker exploded while he examined it at his aunt Miss Mosely's home on Masons Avenue. He was taken to Grady hospital after the accident occurred around 8 o'clock last night. He was with his 12 year old sister Wille Lee and 11 year old cousin Marie Moore as they shot fireworks.
In Cordele Georgia a plumber uncovering a shoe protruding from a depot lavatory door found a cork leg left behind, mistakenly thinking its owner died. After hours the leg was removed, and the mystery remains unsolved.
A wireless message from Chilean torpedo gunboat Tome reports the British cruiser New Castle cannonading fifteen miles from Valparaiso. It is believed she engaged the German cruiser Preaden and the cruiser Prinz Eitel Friedrich. A British squadron and Japanese warships are cruising nearby.
The city celebrated a bright Christmas with church services and charitable efforts. Atlanta churches, hotels, and organizations held programs. prisoners, hospital patients, and the poor received meals and gifts. Many faiths reported festive services and community support across the city.
Two inmates, William Letter alias Charles Straile a Baltimore convict and Tom Daley a post office robber, escaped the federal penitentiary using a long improvised timber over the wall during mist between 6 and 8 pm. Each carries a $60 reward for capture.
President Wilson led Christmas rites at the White House and arranged large gifts for White House staff. He directed automobiles loaded with clothing and toys into Washington's poor districts to honor Mrs. Wilson's charitable interest. The day included a family gathering, a gift exchange, and greetings from admirers.

Rome reports Avlona a seaport in Albania was occupied by Italian sailors. Dispatches from Athens warned of anarchy and civil war in the region. Italy framed actions as relief and sanitary aid to protect refugees, not political occupation, amid London conference autonomy plans.
December reports from Sheerness and Dover describe a German aircraft sighting off South West coast at high speed. British anti aircraft fire and naval aircraft pursued the intruder. the German disappeared eastward. Dover and London updates confirm pursuit and engagement with the hostile plane flown at great height and misty seas.
Three accidents in Waycross on Christmas Day caused one instant death, serious burns for a man, a painful facial wound for a young girl, and a fire threat to a local store. James Williamson died from accidental discharge of a parlor rifle while hunting near the canal between Dewey and Knight streets. an inquest ruled accidental death. L A Knight sustained serious burns filling a gasoline torch in his store as flames endangered the premises. Louise Hudson, daughter of Mr and Mrs R Hudson, was shot in the right cheek by a small rifle and injured badly by a playmate.
Heavy rains caused a landslide that partly covered Valmontone, southeast of Rome, burying about forty people under collapsed buildings. Surrounding areas reported overflowing rivers and extensive property damage.
Rome Va December 7. Special. Seabern Adams colored was arrested after stealing shoes on Broad Street. He was tried by city court, convicted by a jury, and fined $25 plus costs, all within less than 24 hours. The rapid proceedings reflect swift justice.
Paris reports slight progress near Nieuport and repulsed enemy attacks near Notre Dame de Lorette north of Lens. A trench near Putsalenne was captured and held amid counterattacks. French forces repelled a vigorous assault on La Tefe de Faux in the Vosges and, in Belgium, intermittent artillery battles continued from the Uys to the Oise.
