Tame and allies contest for city offices during crowded meeting

The board of aldermen met amid a packed auditorium as factions backed Freeman, Nottingham, and Dasher in a lively party contest. Responding to roll call, Nottingham led Freeman seven to five for mayor while other officers were elected or reelected with little opposition. Offsets in sanitary, city clerk, treasurer, and other posts followed, with Dasher dropping out and new appointments confirmed.
