Miles Lesser, another sophomore, was similarly bound and thrown into the lake but cramps forced his rescue by a freshman swimmer. About forty students fought throughout the episode as the unrest continued.
In Washington the Senate caucus considered making the Panama Canal treaty a party measure. Eleven of twenty-six opposed the move, while supporters argued a two-thirds vote is needed for ratification. The Blackburn resolution binds the minority to party action, and several named senators were listed as opposing or wavering on treating the treaty as a party measure.
The US gunboat Dancroft has returned to Colon after sounding Porto Bello and Nombre de Dios harbors. The auxiliary cruiser Dixie, alongside the railroad deck, discharges stores and will sail for Philadelphia then return with more marines for Isthmus services. Crew disembarkation occurs tomorrow before sailing.

New York December 15 police opened an inquiry into the death of Adolphus Brucker former British parliament member and rich British Columbia mine owner. The prisoner Samuel Murphy alleges attendants gave morphine and a narcotic called snipe and beat him. he claims the body was hastily removed after death.
Seoul reports rioting at Mokpho with seventeen Koreans wounded as Japanese mobs attack. United States Minister Allen demands action on open port of Wiju while Russia’s influence remains strong and Koreans fear possible war or protectorate. Foreigners expect disorder as 8,000 strong Korean army looms, and parts of the Russian squadron head to Port Arthur. William J Bryan travels from Venice to Moscow via Warsaw.

London December 16 The body of Lord Stanley of Alderly died December 19 of pneumonia was buried in Mohammedan rites at Alderly Chelmsford Cheshire today. The ceremony was private with only the family and servants present. An hour of death and other details are disputed alongside remarks about Mr Brucker and hospital notices.
Berlin reports Crown Prince Frederick William was confined to his room for three days by his father after racing a steeplechase against the emperor's wishes. The race occurred near Potsdam a few weeks earlier. The prince, a noted daredevil rider, had been reprimanded for leading a unit of guards up a palace staircase. He had recently been named colonel of that regiment. The emperor warned against endangering the prince's life by steeplechasing. While at Bonn university he was famed for fast tandem driving to shave corners on trips.
Twenty five armed men surrounded the Clayton county jail to lynch Wade Bennett who shot Frank Lesner, a carpet bus driver. The jailer smuggled the suspect through a back exit to a citizen’s home for safety until morning. Lesner’s funeral was held at Bethel church at 3 o’clock this afternoon. Fred Klobedanz, now polo referee, signed with Memphis in the Southern League after leaving Boston.
A report notes that a cut in teachers salaries was issued by General Wood amid accusations of a breach of faith affecting school efficiency.
