Chain Letter Floods Atlanta Mail People in Church Conversion Effort

A South Carolina pastor's chain-letter scheme to win converts spreads through Atlanta with dozens of letters sent to unchurched recipients. Rev. Alex W. Smith of Spartanburg, and several others, are connected to the effort, with a target of seven unconverted contacts each. Residents report mail flooding and efforts to intercept the letters continue.

Chaplain Jones Indicted Amid Courtmartial Proceedings

Norfolk August report says Captain Starry W. Jones facing naval courtmartial on alleged moral conduct charges and falsehood. He was indicted by the Norfolk city grand jury for grand larceny after three protested checks drawn on a New York bank and signed Chaplain Jones. Commonwealth's Attorney Bald says no further action until the court martial ends.

H B Krumholz, owner of a Turkish bath and barber shop, shot and killed his wife Rosalie at their home on 136 South Forsyth Street shortly before midnight. He claimed the act was accidental after hearing a disturbance in the room. Neighbors and lodging guests testified, while police questioned him at the station and coroner's inquest awaited.

Rotor Cars Prove a Success in Denver Run

Rotor cars demonstrate speed and reliability on the Omaha to Denver line. One unit traveled 250 miles in 8 hours 2 minutes, departing Omaha at 9 05 a m and arriving after 8 hours 22 minutes, with another leg completing 68 miles per hour at peak. Woman Murders Two Babies in Insane Frenzy Near Baltimore

A 26 year old Baltimore mother Christina Nenadal, long troubled by madness, strangled her two children aged about one year and three months after taking the infant to a park. Neighbors and police retold how the mother placed the bodies on a dining room table and begged to guard their sleep. She has a history of asylum confinement and was being watched in custody. No Extension and No Pump Contested in 1908 Debate

In 1908 Atlanta council debated extending city limits and buying a new water pump. Alderman Holland condemned “hot air” and halted action, postponing both extension and pump decisions. A seven member committee was proposed to study the pump bid, with three council members and three citizens.
