Cummins proposes tariff amendment on metal schedule

Senator Cummins of Iowa today introduced a compromise amendment to the metal schedule of the tariff law. It seeks substantial ad valorem reductions, leaves iron ore free, caps pig iron at 2 dollars per ton, and reduces duties on tin plate structural iron and steel rails pig read and bullion and cheaper plate forms. The plan aims to bridge Democratic and progressive Republican views and may push Senate revision by consolidating with the House bill.
