Senator Husting charged the American Embargo Conference with a nationwide telegram campaign to force him to back an embargo against war materiel to Europe. He presented a thousand letters from Wisconsin, all from the same source, and urged a congressional probe into who funded the effort and who paid for 200000 telegrams.
Washington April 27 The senate immigration committee agreed to modify the Asiatic exclusion section to drop reference to the Root Takahira agreement restricting Japanese laborers. The Japanese government objects to enacting the pact and to a provision linking Japanese to excluded Hindus. A tentative amendment will likely go to the State Department for talks with the Japanese ambassador.
A semi official Berlin telegram forwarded to the Cologne Gazette says the answer to the American note will not come before week’s end as Germany faces a difficult decision. It warns German leaders must thwart enemies without hindering Germany’s heavy task and notes enemies seek a breach with America.
Washington April 27 Special. Henry B Hicks 20 his wife Marcelle and their four months old baby were taken from a train at Union Station and held for Macon authorities on a charge of embezzlement.
Police headquarters were notified this afternoon that an officer from Macon was on his way here to take Hicks back to Macon for trial. A vote for J Lee Barnes for county commissioner is a vote for better county schools. Mangum's election by large majority is assured.
