Important Acts That Failed

Atlanta, August 28. Two major proposed laws failed passage at the recent general assembly session. One cleared the house but stalled in the senate, the other passed the senate and was tabled in the house. The Ashley bill to create state and county tax boards drew large support in the house but the senate may strike the house amendment to make board members appointive. A prominent senator favored appointive selection, doubting corporate tax-returns overseers would accept a paid political role. The bill is expected to reach the senate next year, possibly with amendments.
