Mrs David Smith of Sullivan county Tennessee suicided by banging. Book companies in Alabama faced court threats over school text contracts due to sardine disputes, but the issue was settled. John Q Winter named judge of Alabama new circuit.
Philadelphia Sunday school secretary Mrs. Mary Foster Bryner will lecture twice in Athens on November 10 at the Free Methodist church. She will address primary teachers and children on better Sunday school methods, with local officials urging all teachers and students to attend.
The piece, celebrated as a high class metropolitan production, opens next Friday in Athens. It features lavish scenery and novel costumes from Ay Gunn, with selections by John F. and a praised cast, promising strong audience backing and a successful run.
The Fair grounds host limited admission racing with 25 cent entry and free seats. Judges include T C Dann J F Rhodes and E H Dorsey. Purses are 50 dollars per harness race. Races feature Morn-Sig Star versus Laby, then three heats between Aledi Primos J Airway and others.

Mr Richard W Saye dies at 79 after a brief illness at his son's home in Atlanta He was a veteran of the War Between the States and famed for bravery in the battle of Fredericksburg He will be brought to Athens for funeral services with Confederate veteran honors and a cemetery burial The procession gathers at the city hall at 9 30 this morning with Troop Artillery pallbearers and Cobb Dainsney Camp members in attendance.
President O Branson will lecture to Vienna Georgia school children and citizens on Robert E Lee. The Vienna News lauds Branson for advancing Georgia education and rural schooling, urging community support for his talk and the ideal of his educational work. The Baptist Committee to Secure Homes plans to house Georgia Baptist Messenger guests for the November session in Athens. William McDowell, longtime Athens grocer and civic figure, died at 78 in Atlanta after years of ill health and paralysis. His funeral and Oakland Cemetery interment are set in Atlanta.
The No where road to Madison county in Clarke County has been rebuilt. Supt. Stanley and his crew cut out a large hill and improved the road to a natural grade. Farmers and residents report easier travel and greater ability to move heavy loads to Athens.
Dr. L. H. Goss, a member of the State board of medical examiners, reports from Atlanta where the board reviewed over two dozen applicants for licenses as physicians. Two failed to pass, signaling the board’s ongoing effort to maintain high standards for medical licensing in the state.
Mr C N Feidelson, a University student, and fellow boarders drank wine at a Morris home on Hancock avenue. Feidelson threw the bottle from a window, hitting Frankenstein’s window and room. Mayor Rhodes dismissed other cases. Feidelson fined seven and a half dollars which he paid, claiming no intent to reach Frankenstein’s house.
A local review of Elmer Grandin's play When Her Goal Speaks at the opera house praises the strong script and performances by Rev. David Dangerfield played by Grandin Miss Virginia Bray and Eva Mountford receive applause The audience is described as appreciative and the production as well rendered.

Atlanta October bids for convict labor shocked officials with prices as high as 259 per year per convict. About 3000 convicts sought across 22 counties, with 1550 to be allocated in lots of fifty. Lowest bid 175, average around 290, and total receipts near 96 per convict per year.
