Atlanta May 18 a fresh and unexpected turn emerged in the Brown case as both sides consented to appeal to a jury trial in the superior court without prejudice to a verdict from the court of ordinary. Papers move from the ordinary court to the superior court where the case will be heard in the fall before Judge Pendleton with Julius and Joseph M. Brown named as executors of Gov. Brown's estate facing dismissal allegations by Mrs. Connally and others.

A committee invited Congressman Howard, who will visit at the Commercial hotel to review evidence with Mayor Rhodes, Aldermen, the Chamber of Commerce, and local officials. About 2500 residents seek restored facilities.

Portland Ore May 18 The whipping post law passed by the legislature last January for punishing wife beaters goes into effect in Oregon. A man convicted may receive up to twenty lashes but this is in addition to existing penalties of fine or imprisonment. Whipping occurs inside jail walls under the sheriff or a designated policeman.
Reports from Chicago confirm the death of Lester C. Winterton in a night raid by native robbers at Wady Halfa Sudan. Winterton led a Loudon to Sudan prospecting party. he and assistant Bowden were asleep when intruders entered with axes. Bowden survived, but Winterton died from injuries on April 11 at age 36.
