The Athens District Conference will convene in Greensboro from Wednesday to Sunday, Rev H B Parks presiding. Delegates from Greensboro charge include Rev H F Parks, Rev W F Colley, Prof J L Caldwell, and many others, with reports on Sunday Schools finances and year end work to be reviewed.

Farmers attempted to burn grasshoppers yesterday at 3 o'clock but failed to reduce them much. A gentleman advised to build a large fire across their path and keep it burning through the night to attract and burn the grasshoppers. Farmers plan to try this method to exterminate the pests.
Fire chief McDorman’s alleged bossiness led J H Emerick and William Emerick to resign from the Pioneer and Hope hall companies. Emerick says suspensions and favoritism drove others to consider leaving. the chief defends his action and cites council support. Chairman O Farrel l of the Fire Department committee says operations will proceed smoothly.
Jim Jennings hosts an annual barbecue for friends near Mitchells Bridge. This year’s event surpassed all previous ones with superb meat, lively entertainment, and large attendance including many ladies. Notable diners Lee Langley and Lock Pruitt from the Banner were missed. Alfred Vess, Joe Stone, Jack Wier, Charley Baldwin, John Cain, and others attended. Stone fainted during the prize attempt. Vess finished remarkably large. Grasshopper soup, made by Cain from County insects, drew curiosity, claimed to taste like shrimp. Attendees left grateful and hopeful for many more barbecues.
Friends urged Judge Hamilton McWhorter to run for Congress in the district. In Athens, he told a Banner reporter there is no authority for the report and he will not be a candidate. He said he is content with his current work and has no intention of running.
