The State Normal School senior class plans a memorial exercise at 8:46 AM tomorrow. The program includes eulogies and criticisms on generals and figures linked to Lee, with readings and poems from multiple students and contributors.
Miss Mildred and Mary Clem Shepperson express gratitude for sympathy after their father's death and announce they will remain in Athens. They plan to bring their father from Tampa to be buried beside their mother in Oconee cemetery and continue civic involvement in the city.
Mr T E Porterfield who was knocked from the tracks of the Georgia road by a freight train is improving slowly. Dr Proctor reports two ribs were broken and it will be several days before Porterfield can return to business.
In Atlanta Governor Terrell approves a plan by the executive committee of eleven agricultural high schools to bid on constructing main academic buildings and two dormitories at each school. The committee aims to award contracts Monday so building can start and be ready for occupancy by fall.
The Supreme Court affirmed Judge C. H. Brand in the Tom Long murder case from Walton county. Long killed Toole in Monroe over a year ago, with lawyers Megers, Felker, Arnold, Stone, Holmes and Foster & Foster among his counsel. State representation included Judge John C. Hart, Solicitor Tribble, and L. G. Russell. Long, who received a life sentence from Judge Brand, will begin serving soon.
The city begins planting young oak trees on both sides of the Boulevard from Barber Street to Nancoochee Avenue. Outer edges of the sidewalk will be sodded before spring, making the street one of the city's most beautiful avenues.
A fifty dollar reward is offered for the arrest with evidence to convict any person detected in turning in a false fire alarm. Mayor W. F. Dorsey signs the notice. The text also promotes a digestion product Kodol, claimed to aid digestion and compliant with the National Pure Food and Drug Law, sold by Orr Drug Co.
The Cecil Rhodes examinations were conducted on the University of Georgia campus for two Georgia scholars. Three candidates from Emory College and Mercer University competed to receive the Oxford University awards, with Mercer eligible if qualified. Previous winners include Robert Preston Brooks and Ward of Emory. Results will be reported after Oxford reviews the papers.
Former city resident now in Samson Alabama Carl Saye has been elected mayor of the growing town. The Samson Ledger notes his address to the council, praising peaceful city governance and planned street improvements for 1907 while urging citizens to support the administration.

Firms conspired to control scorice paste output and to monopolize the trade. John D. Lindsay sought a stay, which was granted. appeal to follow. In Jamaica, tremors from Kingston escalate with 1000 reported dead as Kingston harbor closes. Rear Admiral Evans sails with Atlantic fleet toward the stricken city.
Students at the University of Georgia will observe the 100th birthday of General Robert E. Lee with a chapel ceremony at 10:30 AM. Speakers include Capt. Thomas H. Dozier Chancellor Barrow and professors Park Hooper, plus Asa Candler C. C. King C. N. Felderson and P. R. Weltner. Public invited. The city street committee will seek approval of paving and brick work on College Avenue Washington Street Broad Street and Cobb Street with improvements along Boulevards and Milledge avenues.
The Savannah Press notes bankers seek legal guidance on when notes due on holidays are payable. With Saturday Lee's birthday and Sunday following, banks dispute whether Friday or Monday is the due date. The law changes last August and the current rule push payments for a Monday holiday to the preceding Saturday.
The Southern Banker lauds the Georgia National Bank of Athens publicizing its 1903 founding, four years of dividends totaling 24000, surplus around 78000, and current resources of 865191 with deposits 663053 and loans 383000.
