County to call bond election for 200000 court house fund
County commissioners plan to hold a bond election on April three for a two hundred thousand dollar bond issue to fund a new court house jail and jailer's home. If a cheaper site or buildings are found the unused bonds will be retained to save tax dollars. A council committee led by Judge A J Cobb and including C H Phinizy J R White J W Barnett and A W Dozier will oversee disbursement and planning. The first notice will appear March first with bond election registration closing March fifth.

Fatal 69 foot fall at Southern Oil Refining Company mill
Yesterday morning at the mills near Soreco two miles from Athens, superintendent Loyd was crushed after falling 57 to 69 feet through an open shaft while repairing a hoisting chain. He died soon after, leaving a wife and two children, age 40 to 45. A.M. Dobbs praised Loyd as a capable, trustworthy official. The accident darkened a grim day with worsening weather.

Dearing Dies Suddenly Former Athens Merchant
Alfred Long Dearing aged about fifty, formerly of Athens, died suddenly at his Monroe North Carolina home. He was a University of Georgia alumnus, a prosperous merchant, and brother of Mrs Augustus R. Nicholson. Survived by wife and two children, his remains will be brought to Athens for interment in Oconee cemetery with Masonic services.
