Fred Beusse who was stabbed a week ago by Jesse P Cooper is expected to recover after five wounds and two stabs left him in dangerous condition for several days. Attending doctors reported notable improvement yesterday morning and said he is practically out of danger. He spent a good day yesterday and is on the path to full recovery.
Yesterday afternoon at Moss Manufacturing Co. a twelve year old boy named M. Watkins was injured while operating a machine. He placed his hand near a taws and sustained five severe lacerations. The wound was dressed and he is recovering well.
Sheriff Earl Overby of Oconee county visited Athens yesterday after a period of paralysis at Watkinsville. He has recovered enough to resume all duties and now oversees the recently erected jail costing about $6,500, a claim that makes Ovones county boast one of the finest jails in the state.
A white man Cheatham posted a $750 bond in Oconee to answer for appearance in Oconee Superior Court on fifteen liquor cases. True bills were returned by the grand jury in a recent session. Allegedly he sold liquor near Mars Hill church. The community, especially women, petitioned Judge Russell to crack down on the traffic.
The Banner reports continual cottage construction in Athens with new plans this year. Dr. U. B. Pe. intends to build two four room cottages on Lumpkin Street near Baldwin on part of the Miller Milton property.
Dewitt Watson, young son of Mr J. W. Watson, was injured while laying brick in the Michael building on Jackson Street. A brick fragment flew into his eye causing inflammation. He is much better and expected to recover in a few days.
Bail was granted yesterday to Jesse P. Cooper who stabbed Fred Beusse a week earlier. Bond set at three hundred dollars was posted, Cooper released by Sheriff Wier after security signed by Mesera J. Cooper and John N. Holder. Proceedings pending. attorneys listed as Col John R Cooper and Hon Henry O. Tuck.
High Priest Max Joseph and officers led a Royal Arch team from Mt Vernon Lodge of Masons to organize Calm Lodge No 36 at Harmony Grove. Joseph conferred four degrees in sequence between 2 and 9 o clock, likely the most degrees in a single session in the state. Harmony Grove Masons are praised for their strong effort and promising chapter.

Mr J W Watson received his son Lieut Dala Watson 46th United States Infantry discharge papers noting his battles in the Philippines and bravery. He now serves as 2nd lieutenant in the 6th United States Infantry in the Philippines and writes he is well pleased with his surroundings. His wife plans to join him in Manila soon.
A major fire struck Lawrenceville yesterday afternoon destroying the handsome Methodist church and a large school building that housed over 300 pupils. Principal Clarence R. Ware will consider plans to continue schooling if possible as details remain unavailable.
Mr J Smith of South Carolina returns to Athens after over twelve years away. He once lived here and worked as a contractor building several houses. J H Salisbury conductor on the Knoxville branch of the Southern railway was mortally wounded by a negro waiter at Glen Rock hotel in Asheville North Carolina on February 13. The waiter reportedly refused service after an altercation and fired four shots. A large crowd gathered at the jail but authorities expected to maintain control.
In Atlanta visitors from Cook County democracy were met by a reception committee and police as a local marching club without a drum corps paraded downtown. A genuine Georgia barbecue was served at Piedmont Park, with Capitol speeches planned for the evening. In Villa Rica work proceeds on granite stores with two new two story brick and granite buildings planned on the public square.
In Raleigh on February 11 two Black men attempted to rob B J Utley a rural free delivery carrier. They seized a box from his buggy and fled into the woods after he fired twice wounding one attacker. Utley pursued on horseback but the pair escaped. his horse bolted and he was injured by trees.
In Florence Colorado on February 13 a mob attacked Japanese workers replacing striking locals at Chandler coal mines. After a union meeting threatening removal of Japanese, the boardinghouse was demolished and the Japanese driven from camp. Reports say 200 more Japanese were rumored to approach. No serious injuries confirmed.
Washington bill hikes post office funding to 137.9 million dollars, up 14.1 million from current. Major item is 41.25 million for railway mail transport. Rural delivery gains 1.25 million to 7.63 million, with a contract plan for rural carriers. Extra fast mail service between Washington and New Orleans included. Salaries for post office clerks rise 811 thousand and railway mail workers gain 200 thousand.
