Night assault at Miss Thurmond residence ends in pursuit
Josiah Lewis known as Pig Payne, jailed on a heavy charge after breaking into the Thurmond home on Dearing Street. Miss Fannie Statham aided by Miss Carrie Thurmond fired into the air to protect themselves as Lewis pursued Miss Statham to a window ledge. Capt. J. H. Rucker and officers quickly arrested him at his home and brought him to the jail.

Farmers Meet to Organize Clarke County Cotton Growers
Clarke county cotton growers will meet at the University Chapel in Athens on Thursday February 16 at 2 PM to act on the Southern Cotton Growers' circular. Attendees will sign a pledge to reduce cotton acreage by at least 25 percent and cut fertilizer usage to 25 percent of 1904.

Suicide of a Young Farmer in Oglethorpe County
No cause assigned for the death of Linton Williams a prominent young farmer of Oglethorpe County who shot himself at his Hull area home yesterday morning. Found with a thirty eight caliber pistol in the right temple the death appears instantaneous. He was son of Ben B Williams and nephew of Hon J Young Williams. Funeral set for this afternoon at three at his father’s residence in Oglethorpe County.

Stevens on Recent Freeze Hits Georgia Oat Crop
Atlanta February 10 Commissioner of Agriculture O B Stevens says the oat crop in northern and middle Georgia has been killed or badly damaged by nearly a week of bad weather. Ice on the ground may aid future planting as thawing equals several hard rains. Farmers had sown hundreds of bushels and were just peeping through the soil. Fruit trees show damage from sleet though buds were not yet fully out. Orchards suffer from broken trees, yet Stevens notes minimal overall fruit injury.
