The act prohibits manufacture and sale of intoxicating liquors with exceptions for medical use. It allows licensed druggists to dispense pure alcohol with physician prescription after examination, with record keeping and public inspection. Penalties apply for violations. dispensaries banned. wholesale druggists must maintain sale records.
Manager Al Jen notes stock on hand under three thousand dollars after a decline in daily sales. He expects today and tomorrow to exhaust remaining stock, with little beer possibly left. Commissioners plan no more purchases, and by next week the dispensary operations may end, using fruit jars in lieu of jugs.
Mrs. D R Hester died yesterday morning after a week long pneumonia at her Jackson street home. A niece of Henry Heard and Columbus Heard she leaves a widower and no children. She was a First Methodist member and well regarded. remains to be interred at Siloam Greene county. The notice includes unrelated legal and alcohol regulation text from the same era.
A chamber of commerce meeting is set for four this afternoon at city hall in Athens to oppose cutting two daily Seaboard Air Line trains. Yesterday morning Miss Megsle Blackstone aged twenty two died at her College avenue home after a brief illness. She was daughter of Mr. W. J. Blackstone and beloved by all who knew her. Funeral today at Rays church in Oconee county with departure of the remains from her city residence at ten o clock this morning.
Dr Malcolm McGregor of Atlanta preached at the First Baptist Church in morning and evening services Sunday. Known for strong sermons and deep consecration his return is welcomed by the church members.
Twenty one farmers from across the state have enrolled in the University of Georgia Cotton School set to begin January 6. Over one hundred others have requested information, with many likely to attend. Expect 50 to 300 participants, with notable registrants including J. OConnor of Bartow and A J McMullan of Hart, both trustees who enroll to learn themselves.

Brooks now at St Marys Hospital. bullet lodged in back flesh near hip not near intestines. Cunningham also recovering after being struck. incident linked to ongoing family feud between their sons.

Yesterday afternoon at Grady Hospital in Atlanta A B Hillsman, night watchman at the Fulton Bag and Cotton Mill, died after days of intense suffering from a scalding incident on his rounds when he stepped into a vat of boiling water. He was a brother of the late John Hillsman and was a resident of Athens with several nephews and nieces in the area.
Eugene F Eakes died in an Atlanta hospital after an operation leaving a wife and several children. He was son of Rev and Mrs M H Eakes, former pastor of Oconee Street Church, lived in Athens earlier as a printer for Clarke County News and operated a Union Point newspaper before moving to Atlanta. The notice notes community regret and mentions a Health ad for Kodol digestives.

Augusta Ga December 26 James Wertz a 27 year old Batesburg S C business man was killed and robbed by an unknown assassin on the public road between Batesburg and Leesville yesterday afternoon about 6 o'clock. He was a clerk for L D Cullum Co at Batesburg and rode a bicycle home. The body had a jagged skull wound and clothing pockets turned out. Police suspect robbery. bloodhounds have been sent to pursue the trail.

Flowery Branch Georgia December 29 Law Hawkins son of Hon W D Hawkins of this place is in jail at Gainesville arrested by Sheriff W A Crow of Hall county on four warrants one charges him with assault to murder his own father W D Hawkins is a prominent business man and former legislator and senator from this district in the upper house The young man was proprietor of a livery stable here and two years ago a candidate in the democratic primary for sheriff It is believed the youth may be tried for lunacy.
The German Kali Works sent President Soule of the State College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts a large box of fertilizer material samples. The jars are airtight and labeled with ingredients, enabling the samples to be used in lectures across agriculture classes, a gift the college values highly for its expected service.
Anderson Brown, a Black man, was turned over yesterday to the City Court of Athens for trial on a gambling offense after serving a term for disorderly conduct. The report also mentions a local gang member involved in a skin game.
