Roosevelt May Not Call Extraordinary Session This Year
Oyster Bay N Y August 14 Notwithstanding prior announcements congress may not be called into extraordinary session next November Indications are now that no extraordinary session will be held this year This statement is on authority of President Roosevelt He will decide after returning to Washington late September The chances of an extra session appear to be fading with pressure against it Many senators and representatives urge against an extra session noting little to gain and potential inconvenience The initial October timing for railroad rate legislation was abandoned and the session would wait until after the November election If called it would begin the first Monday after the elections and three weeks before the regular December session The president may also tour the south due to yellow fever in New Orleans, visiting Atlantic coast states in October and then Louisiana Arkansas and perhaps Tennessee No definite plans have been made Senator Lodge returned from Europe and praised cordial Britain and France views of America While peace talks with the Far East are hoped for, optimism is guarded President Roosevelt and family attended morning services at church and received no visitors
