Only two of the new lieutenant colonels appointed by Governor Terrell have qualified. Colonels F. A Lipscomb and J. M. Joseph are confirmed. Col. M. G. Michael declined the post after serving on the governor's staff. Michael cited prior commitments in a February 13, 1903 letter from Athens to Governor Terrell.
Yesterday afternoon Mr Randolph Jacquis of Macon won the tennis championship in singles at the University of Georgia by defeating Preston Brooks in two sets. The Brooks brothers won the doubles. Clifton is mentioned as a floor brand in an unrelated ad.

Cobb Deloney Camp United Confederate Veterans plans its regular meeting Saturday at eleven o'clock in City Hall. The annual election of officers will be held and members are urged to attend.

Bailiff J. R. Williams and Joe Sage tried to arrest Zip King at his Helicon Springs home. King and others attacked the officers. Sage was beaten, Williams was struck, and King escaped with Sage’s pistol. Three women and Mose Allen were later arrested. Allen was convicted and fined $80 and costs.
A series of three competitive drills by the University Cadets began yesterday afternoon. The top three men from each company were named to advance to the final drill at the next commencement. Winners were Company A Scrat Carson Telford M H Berroughs Company B Sergt Faulk F H Balford P Q Harber Company C R M Dearing J D Weaton R O Levy.
The East Athens Free Kindergarten run by the Woman's Club operates in the night school building during morning hours. Miss Marion Carlton now leads a class of 28 children who learn reading, writing, crafts, singing, and scripture verses, with an average winter attendance of 18. Monthly committees report needs, and recent gifts include books, cups, scratch pads, magazines, and tea cakes for the children.
The premium list preparation and advertising material distribution will start soon. The track location near John Bird and T. W. Powell’s lots is set and grading will begin in a few days. Construction of fences and buildings will follow after obtaining lumber, likely this month. The fair association expects a large fall crowd in Athena and work continues across committees, with the Athens Woman's Club inviting contributions through the president or members.
