Off-Duty Deputy Rescues Drowning Girls From Dark Pond
Durham County deputy David Earp, responding to a call at night, swam into a five foot deep pond to save two girls from drowning after their father, Alan Lassiter, allegedly threw them in. The children were rushed to safety, with the 3-year-old in critical condition and the 5-year-old in good condition. Lassiter, later charged with three counts of attempted murder, waited by the pond as police arrived.
