Impartial observers predicted they would enter the wet parade, making it necessary for repealists to obtain the approval of only five additional states to end national prohibition.

Hal Neff a 26 year old night mail pilot crashed near Leoni Michigan while en route from Chicago to Cleveland. He lay beside his wrecked plane two days before a boy spotted him and rescue planes searched the route. He suffered a fractured left leg a broken right arm and severe cuts but was in good spirits and expected to recover.
Dr. James P. Porter of Ohio University was named chairman of the Athens County Re-Employment Committee announced in Columbus by Federal re employment director Stanley G. Matthewson. The group includes Ray Noble secretary W D Hines mayor of Chauncey Rev Lloyd Evans Nelsonville William B Morris secretary Miners Scale Committee and E L Lantz Re employment Manager in Glouster. Headquarters are set in the Athens Armory with offices in Nelsonville Chauncey and Glouster and a Ga r Legion Building location to open. Unemployed persons not on relief lists should register at the nearest office others on relief rolls are automatically registered.
Chester Russell of Jacksonville and Elza Dean of Amesville pleaded not guilty to assault and pointing firearms respectively, each bound to common pleas court on $200 bonds. John Witham Jr of Jacksonville faced an assault to rape charge, held to the grand jury on $500 bond. All were arrested by Constable Frank White. Jack King of Athens paid $25 plus costs after pleading guilty to intoxication. fines suspended and probation set.
Ray mond Hix aged two of Addison was bitten on the left hand by a copperhead while playing in a yard and admitted to Holzer Hospital for treatment with his condition listed as fair. James Delbert Boster of Gallipolis RR 4 was admitted for removal of a punctured right eye after a tobacco stick strike while at work in tobacco held.
Ohio's Goodwin-Smolka measure to spend 4 million dollars for parochial schools in 1933 and 1934 faces possible defeat as no revenue source is planned. The Gunsett School Foundation bill proposing 3 million for weak districts also awaits action, with veto threats over the 3 million allocation. Governor White says the Gunsett bill lacks available funds and would be vetoed if the appropriation remains.
Consumers cards pledging NRA support were signed by 1753 families in Athens. Sixty nine refused and 229 were absent during canvassing. The League of Women Voters and City Federation of Women's Clubs led the drive. Ohio University faculty were among those missed. Workers will continue visits until every household is given a chance to pledge.
Dr. Warren G. Harding I, nephew of the late president, will sail for Sydney with his wife Dr Frances Keller Harding and their two children. He will join the Sydney hospital and sanitarium to treat cancer patients and will reside in Australia for at least five years.
Orville Albert Stephens, serving life for second degree murder in Seneca County, was granted an imminent danger of death parole by Governor White. He was ordered released immediately from the Ohio Penitentiary as the prison physician reported he faces imminent death from tuberculosis of the abdomen within days.
COLUMBUS September 19 The Federal Home Owners Loan Corporation state office reported 35160 applications for loans at the end of five weeks of business totaling 106,479,922 dollars. About half of mortgage holding companies have agreed to accept 4 percent tax exempt bonds for mortgages they hold.
