Doctor refuses Athens health commissioner post amid turmoil
Dr. H. T. Phillips declined the joint health commissioner positions for Athens County and City citing personal affairs and a tangled health setup. He warned only a dictator could straighten the department’s conflicts, and said he did not want to become the focus of ongoing quarrels. The boards had named him last June and last week the city board also chose him amid federal age requirements for the post.
