London based Polish Transcontinental Press says 20000 civilians killed in German air raids around Lemberg with civilian losses outweighing military. Fighting spreads toward northeast near Lithuanian border and southeast. German columns push toward Brest Litovsk and toward Stryi and Rawa Ruska with weakened Lwow defenses after heavy artillery.
Washington report on the U S neutrality law contrasts pro and con positions. Sen Borah argues against any change while Col Knox backs repeal. Roosevelt favors repeal with cash buyers on neutral ships. Edison warns risks to torpedoing vessels and Murphy notes anti sabotage and anti profiteering steps.
President Roosevelt announced a special Congress session will focus on revising the neutrality law. He aims to remove the mandatory arms embargo for belligerents and indicated no plan to curb wartime profiteers. He discussed naval patrols, Civil War era lessons, and pending a presidential message to Congress on Thursday.
Twenty six men of the Squalus crew reached home port after salvage and recovery efforts. Bodies were carried from the after section while officers and shipmates stood at attention. The submarine had sunk 240 feet off the Atlantic coast May 21 during a practice dive and was towed to the navy yard after months of salvage work.

Milton Hoffman of Miller City reported a nude man prowling near his barnyard to Sheriff Potts in Ottawa. The driver, a 28 year old from Fostoria, said he stopped his car after spotting an animal watering trough and disrobed, entering the trough to cool off.
Federal inspectors planned an inquiry into the Chagrin Harbor Airport crash that killed 26 year old private pilot Robert Damon. Witnesses said Damon had earned his license a week earlier and was performing a stunt when the plane entered a spin and crashed.
H F McElroy longtime Kansas City city manager and leading figure in the Tom Pendergast Democratic machine died today after 13 years in office. He was the No 2 man in the organization and his death leaves a leadership vacuum in local government and party operations.
Democratic state headquarters charged the Republican administration and its officials are seeking an excuse to disqualify petitions for a referendum on the new civil service reorganization law.
Governor John W Bricker appoints Miss Gertrude Jones of Findlay as the new Republican member and chairman of the state civil service commission. She succeeds Ralph Emmons whose term expired. This marks Bricker s second major appointment of a woman. Miss Lottie Randolph is assistant agriculture director.
Alfred J. Cooper, 31, a Portsmouth baker, died when his two passenger plane crashed in a field west of the city shortly after takeoff. Authorities investigated the accident and identified the deceased. The incident occurred yesterday and prompted an aviation inquiry.

Robert McGary, 36, Booneville Indiana, truck driver, held in jail as police investigate why his truck struck a Brookside school bus carrying 26 children. Three children were hospitalized with minor injuries. the bus driver and remaining pupils unharmed.

Judge Wayne G Borah postponed sentencing to allow appeals or a possible new trial. Also convicted were Dr James Monroe Smith Monte E Hart Louis C Lesage and J Emory Adams.
Report from Vaals in southern Limburg says Germans are evacuating areas along the border between Belgium and Germany. Rumor says Aachen may follow as fear mounts of French and British air raids on Siegfried Line fortifications and other targets.
Montreal reports the federal war tax ends the five cent beer in Quebec Province. Taverns switch to selling 12 ounce glasses at ten cents, changing local drinking prices and habits.
State officials concluded the war boom could improve Ohio finances through faster private industry gains, higher tax revenue, and smaller relief rolls. WPA reports show many workers failing to report, some finding private jobs, and former WPA recipients not seeking local relief certification. Officials warned inflation could hurt demand, while steel and coal sectors show gains and several railroads rehire workers, signaling broader economic revival.
United Press reports Allies claim French troops pushed into advance works before the German west wall east of Saarbrucken after 36 hours of heavy Nazi artillery. British forces said to be entering France in large numbers with superior equipment. French and British anti submarine squadrons launch a large hunt for ships serving German U boats. Germans claim initial offensives began with 30 submarines now cut to under 25. Poles report holding Warsaw and Lwow with heavy losses to Germans. German planes accused of bombing noncombatants. Germans say north forces moved into Brest Litovsk fortifications near the Polish border.
Governor Bricker said he will not call a special legislative session to address relief crises in larger cities. He told Toledo officials there would be little to gain, noting there would be no state money without new taxes. He argued the legislature would not approve extra taxes, and cited Toledo’s rejection of a relief levy at the recent election.
The Admiralty reported several German submarines attacked and destroyed by the British fleet though exact numbers were not given. A communique said destroyers patrol vessels and aircraft are patrolling wide areas for U boats with many attacks and some U boats destroyed. Survivors were rescued or captured when possible.
Drought conditions have caused an estimated shortage of about 1,500,000 bushels in the Ohio potato crop since September, according to reports to the State Department of Agriculture. The department also noted that food buying hysteria at the outbreak of the European war is subsiding quickly.
Mrs. W. J. Lawrence, formerly of Syracuse, died in Youngstown yesterday. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. O. W. Rollins of Covington Kentucky and Bertha Lawrence a school teacher in Youngstown. Funeral services in Youngstown will be held tonight and the body will be returned to Pomeroy for services Saturday at 3 oclock at Ewing Funeral Home. Burial will be Beech Grove Cemetery.
A. T. Ankrom, 38, of Pennsboro West Virginia was killed and his companion Grant Carlton of McConnelsville injured when their car sideswiped a truck near McConnelsville and overturned.

In Fremont A P report Velma Baker Fink 22 year old Clyde divorcee on trial for first degree murder of her infant son Haldon resumes testimony. Her mother Mrs Oren Baker testifies, sobbing about domestic difficulties preceding Haldon’s death on June 13.
The navy announced 40 of 110 older destroyers tied up in San Diego and Philadelphia yards will be recommissioned soon to assume active patrol duties under the neutrality program. Most ships were built during World War I and are being refurbished for rapid deployment.
