Relief money shortage hits Meigs County WPA program
Meigs County faces a growing relief problem as WPA rolls shrink and funds run dry. County reports indicate nearly 800 to 1000 WPA jobs may be affected, with state highway work adding about 200 positions. Private employment rising offers hope, but shortages persist as relief orders dwindle and 30 day suspensions complicate placement.

Speech of Steel Man To Recall Mill Day in Pomeroy Bend
POMEROY says a Chamber of Commerce program on Industry on September 26 will recount Pomeroy steel history. A. L. Boehme of Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co. will speak about the Pomeroy Rolling Mill Co. origins and its growth into a large industry. The piece covers the plant’s dismantling, local figures like Jake M. Faris and James A. Campbell, and questions whether earlier forethought could have kept the mill locally. It notes the long ties to Youngstown and the American Steel Hook Co. and Carnegie Steel. It closes with a broad microbial fact about bacteria.
