Estimate for Front Street work allowed by council

An estimate of 3478.91 for Front Street improvement work from Barthlow was presented Friday night. After a 10 percent reduction, the council approved the lower amount and the mayor and clerk were authorized to sign a certificate of indebtedness in favor of First National Bank. A $200 transfer from general to safety fund paid the marshal's salary while safety and other funds remain small, with water and light fund carrying a balance. W J Richards complained of not receiving work, but was placed on the list for consideration. A 10 inch street hole near Newton store was ordered filled after a report by W Kinsell about a spring damaged by a water-line change. Two sewer complaints, one near the old Light plant and another in No. 6 addition, were ordered investigated. Several street work and weed-cutting bills were approved for payment, and local obituaries and personal notices followed.
