Legal action resumes to eject about 80 miners from company housing. Suits have lingered since early August as the dispute over housing rights and wage conditions continues in state court.
Belmont county cases moved to a Justice court where Powhattan Coal Mining Co won two ejectment suits against about 80 idle miners occupying company houses. Court has sided with operators 38 total wins. twenty more hearings expected this month. The company denies plans for a non union reopening. guards at three mines remain on duty amid rumors of open shop workers arriving. Sheriff orders guards on duty and cancels leave as officials monitor potential unrest. The report also notes an expedition led by Richard Marsh to the Orinoco delta seeking Paul Redfern for the Smithsonian.
Logan city council approved an earlier start for the boulevard lighting project set to operate October 1 replacing December 1. The system includes 59 high candle power lights on Main and Market streets with 18 burning all night and 41 until midnight. At contract start, the city will also have 99 arc lights of 600 candle power plus 34 eight candle power lights.
Canada’s candidacy for the League of Nations council membership gained momentum after the assembly defeated Belgium’s bid for renewal. Belgium’s request for eligibility failed by 29 votes to 19, strengthening Canada's position in Geneva.

Ill for months, she may have taken her own life amid concern for her mental state. A suitcase and clothing were taken. search continued with officers and relatives, with possible sighting in Athens.
Ruth Elder arrives in New York in the orange monoplane American Girl after a 420 mile hop from Wheeling. She and co pilot Captain George Haldeman plan a solo crossing to Paris in two to three days weather permitting. Elder, 23, says the crossing will go ahead despite recent air disasters.
Judge Carlos Weygandt works with medical authorities to evaluate if a blood test can determine the baby's maternity amid a baby swap claim by Mrs. Sam Smith at a Cleveland hospital. Nurse Ruth Meyer says she cannot recall the baby's sex, citing multiple births that day.
Rev H B Pilchard of Pomeroy has been appointed Athens district superintendent for the Anti Saloon League. The district covers fourteen counties in the state and is among the largest. Pilchard has pastored Belpre and Rockland churches for three years and moves with his family to Athens by Friday.
Chief Herb Parker says one suspect may be the same man who stole Edwin Chubb’s car and suspects Raymond Barnes, a jail escapee, as the person. Barnes bought a car from A. D. Betzing on September 6 and may have driven it to the asylum grounds where it was found abandoned. Police also note a watch and tackle sale attempt near Gallipolis and a break from jail. No further robberies reported.

Promoter Tex Rickard and Dempsey's training camp were mentioned as the actions to deter sales.

Enid Oklahoma September 15 murder charges were to be filed against Mary Atkinson a 43 year old nurse accused of poisoning the wife and daughter of Rev Charles Bailey. Pathologists confirmed poisoning as the cause of death for Mary Jane Bailey 18 and a twin sister fell gravely ill after eating something. Atkinson jailed without bail for days in connection with the deaths after police found poison and letters with the minister.
Columbus reports the mining districts are calm enough for Adjutant General Frank Henderson to depart the city for the first time since tensions began. He traveled to Camp Perry to oversee affairs.
Isadora Duncan, 49, died in Flair for the Unusual style as her Spanish shawl became entangled in a car front wheel during a demonstration in Nice France. The chauffeur started the car unaware, pulling Miss Duncan under a rear wheel and breaking her spinal column.
