Joneses Travel to St Louis in an Oldsmobile
Dr and Mrs C L Jones journeyed from Athens to St Louis and back in a four horsepower Oldsmobile carrying 450 pounds. They traveled along the National road via Columbus Springfield Dayton and Richmond with good roads except 50 miles of mud in Illinois. The best leg Columbus to Springfield covered 45 miles in 2 hours 25 minutes. They used 19 gallons of gasoline overall and reported a profitable long run.
