Portland Road Project Under Review In Meigs County
Meigs County commissioners and Ohio highway officials weigh extending State Route 124 from Ravenswood to Portland and north toward Washington County. The plan would create direct routes for truckers to Charleston Parkersburg Wheeling and Eastern markets, with a proposed alignment near the Buffington Island Battle Monument and its impact on adjacent Portland river bottom farms. A Portland meeting will decide if the road can cross fields straight to avoid cutting land into uneven parcels.
