The Guinean government placed newly arrived U S ambassador Robinson McIlvaine under house arrest amid protests from the United States. A Pan American Airways official was also detained as retaliation for Ghana’s weekend arrest of a 19 member Guinea delegation including the foreign minister. The State Department denied U S or Pan American responsibility for the incident.
