Gallia County to place 15 000 turkeys for markets

Gallia County near Gallipolis expects about 15000 turkeys to be placed on Thanksgiving and Christmas markets, driven by a rising demand. Prices in city markets reach 30 cents a pound with forecasts of 35 cents to growers, as fowls are moved in coops to larger cities. Turkeys are purchased at farms by city buyers and trucked out, with past drives noting thousands of birds moving into the city, including a 1917 scene atop Ingels Hill where many fowls roosted and drew spectators.
