Mardis and Ohio University historian Thomas N Hoover will debate the proposed constitutional tax limit at the Athens County Courthouse Saturday at 7 00 p m. Mardis opposes the measure while Hoover speaks in its favor in a public exchange designed to inform voters.
Nelsonville obituary reports Henry McCulloch 66 foreman at Nelsonville Foundry and Machine Company died at 4:30 PM from a heart attack at work. He lived previously in Middleport and is survived by his widow and daughter Mrs Edith Stiers. He was a Mason Knights of Pythias member and Presbyterian. Funeral plans pending.
New York, Oct. 29. The stock market recovered briefly from heavy selling yet tumbled as a curb brokerage firm failed, the first since the down market started. Trading fell into a sharp decline with numerous blue chips dropping, while steel and radio showed strength before sliding again. Major losses including American Can and Westinghouse Electric marked a broad market slide as liquidity dried up.
Cotton prices broke a fall at the New York Cotton Exchange in the season's most active period. December and May led the decline as a wave of liquidation swept the market and bearish pressure pressed prices to low season levels.
