Three days before Halloween children prepare for pranks with hooded masked figures and eerie questions. Corn rattles at doors, milk bottles refill, soap designs appear on car windows, and households tidy up corn for chickens. Book club officers are listed for fourth through sixth grades.
Revival services closed at the Indendent Holiness Church after a three week series led by Rev Browning and his wife from West Virginia. Rev Russell Plants and his sister from Heights, West Virginia assisted in the services.

A large force at Chauncey Mine No 25 of the Manhattan Coal Company is rapidly cleaning up and getting the mine ready for operation after an explosion sealed it for 60 days. Many workers have returned to duty as the site is inspected and opened for operation. Chauncey, Oct. 27.
A three day dramatic conference in the Chamber of Commerce Loft discusses the role of home talent in rural Ohio. Bruce of Ohio State University outlines two dozen counties adopting home talent efforts with plays exchanged at fairs and tournaments. Plans aim to create demonstrational stages in every county and improve equipment. Also noted is a Democratic gubernatorial candidate Martin L Davey assailing the Cuyahoga County Republican machine in a telegram about a Hoover fund donation from the Fisher brothers to the Hoover-Curtle fund.
CHAUNCEY October 27 Local miners received two dollar relief orders from the United Mine Workers. Some weeks cash is paid to the men, while other times an order is issued for relief funds.
Denver Bricker of Chauncey will depart Monday to Columbus to enter White Cross Hospital for preoperative treatment before an inward goiter removal. Mrs. Elmer Nida of Columbus, formerly of The Flains Chauncy, and musical contributions by Dale Warner and Frederica, accompany details of the visit.
At a Chauncey union meeting four miners were named for suspension for attending at home entertainment. Each faced fines of 400 dollars and a nine year ban from the organization. The guests included Mrs Lily Bol and family, Roger Rosing, Ruth Varlner, Dale Warner, all of Chauncey.
The body of William Romine was found early today by a freight crew near Torch after being struck by trains along the B and Q lines. Coroner Jones ruled the death accidental with no one held responsible. Romine leaves a widow and four sons and four daughters. Funeral services set for Sunday at the Methodist Church.
Chauncey Dover High School seniors held a masquerade party at the home of Miss Pauline and Dee Daugherty in Beaumont with Halloween decor, games, music, and dancing. Faculty members Miss Ruth Fiske and Paul Theisen attended. Guests included Opal Rivers, Alice Dew, Louise Dew, Leuretta Fielder, Hazel Harvey, Elsy Rankin, Kathleen Smith, Lucille Jackson, Cleuth Porter, Pauline Daugherty, Neil Tippett, Fred Ferrer, Homec Omen, Oris Bodinot, Ernest Wade, Livel Thomas, Guy Richardson, Ralph Smith, Elsworth Tracey and Dee Daugherty. Other visitors were Mrs. Martha Frost and Mrs. Bertha Ald of Pittsburgh, and Mrs. Lucy Surgeon of The Plains. Various relatives and Chauncey residents are noted visiting or traveling to Akron and Pontiac for extended stays and family visits.
A three person crew led by Lieut Harry W Lyon Captain W A Lancaster and Mrs Keith Miller plans a dawn attempt from Port Washington to Bermuda. They will fly the Wright whirl wind monoplane Diane carrying 250 gallons of fuel on a 699 mile voyage. Lyon navigator of the Southern Cross flight, Lancaster a British flier, Miller known for England to Australia flight in recent recognition.
