Reports say Christian Nationalists rolled Italian Fiat tanks toward Madrid 16 miles from the city, reaching 50 miles per hour and scattering Loyalist lines. The advance forced defenders to retreat as officials rush to fortify the capital. UPI reporter Henry Gorrel was captured amid the fighting.

An investigation began into a private airplane crash near Marion Virginia that killed five people including owner William P. Mitchell of Bluefield West Virginia. The plane crashed as it took off from a golf course en route to a dinner party in Welch West Virginia. The deceased were Mitchell R B Tidewell A Chappell and Charles Henry with a Welch resident among the victims.
IPSWICH England Justice Sir Anthony Hawke will hear Tuesday the divorce case of Simpson versus Simpson. The case is expected to free Mrs Wallis Warfield Simpson, a close friend of King Edward. The king spent the weekend at his country place near Belvedere with a small party of intimate friends.
Marietta reports William T. Hastings, 65, prominent Citizens National Bank president and oil operator, died here today of a heart attack.
Ed ward Boehm, star white halfback, scored on end sweeps before a black opponent. a black youth pulled a razor and Boehm left the field with a deep cut, ending his team’s chances in the Kansas City game.

Separate inquiries cover the CIO drive in rubber and auto industries with about ten investigations underway.
Gunnison Colorado report says Carrol M Carter ordered removal of a five ton rock near the Ohio City gold mine. The rock fell Sunday on Floyd Cooper aged 24 at an 800 foot level shaft, killing him. It was the first fatality in 40 years at the mine.
A bombing plane crashed on a farm near Bryan's Mill killing two army fliers. Capt. Charlies Howard of Langley Field Virginia and Corporal E N Gibson a former Scott Field mechanic were identified by a tag and ship number. A separate Department of Commerce patrol plane crashed in the Arbuckle Mountains with F C Ormsbee of Providence reported dead near Woodward Oklahoma.
H J Berrodin, head of the State Division of Aid for the Aged, announced September pension payments reached 2,260,140 dollars. The average grant was 24.97 dollars, issued to 90,868 recipients.

A mob of women attacked the Louisianan and Arkansas passenger train The Hustler in Winnfield Louisiana. They held the fireman at gunpoint stripped him, chased him into the woods, and fled with his clothes watch and $65. A separate male gang set fire to a bridge at Laplace over which the train was to pass. the blaze was quickly put out with minor damage.
Washington C H officials welcomed a $45,000 Public Works Administration grant for a school addition but were unsure how to spend it. Superintendent L W Reese said the source knew nothing about the grant and speculated it could relate to a bond issue for a gymnasium auditorium defeated in 1952.

Dr. Francis Townsend closed his anti Roosevelt tour detailing why Townsendites should back Alf Landon in 14 states where William Lemke isn’t on the November ballot. He warned Roosevelt will reward loyalists who agree with him but persecute dissenters and accused Roosevelt of being aided by communistic forces seeking to advance their ideas.
Huntington West Virginia police hold Charles Buffington Baldwin aged 41 on murder charges in the case of Mrs Juliette Buffington Enslow a 63 year old wealthy widow. Baldwin is a Washington and Lee law graduate and former Army Air Corps captain who was married to Hazel Hatfield daughter of Henry D Hatfield. Blood was found on his pajamas in a closet at the Enslow home.
In Columbus the final week of governor campaign starts with both Gov. Martin L. Davey and Republican opponent Attorney General Joan W. Bricker touring Southwestern Ohio in a bid to broaden their support ahead of the election.
Edwin J L Bryan acting for Earl Browder Communist presidential candidate will seek warrants against three alleged leaders of a band that broke up a second attempt at a Communist rally. In Durham a crowd delayed James Ford Negro Communist candidate for vice president until police guard arrived. Browder retreated to his hotel as armed men with American Legion caps attacked the rally causing injuries and a platform collapse.
Ohio accidents claimed at least ten lives over the weekend. A Pennsylvania passenger train struck an automobile near South Charleston killing J Wesley Grim 53 Laura Grim 53 and Ida Inlow 74. Benton Kidwell a witness said the car went onto tracks despite warning bells. Catherine Wikoff 76 and John Franks 67 also died in Columbus traffic incidents.
