Ohio operators reject Daugherty offer amid a broader dispute while coverage details note a Mexican California shrub rubber breakthrough. The U S Bureau of Standards reports Guayule rubber tests compare favorably with plantation rubber and Hevea rubber.
The Ohio Coal Operators Association declined Oral Daugherty’s invitation for a fact finding commission to settle the wage deadlock. Operators said UMW and state officials would not authorize a deviation from the Jacksonville $7.50 scale. They urged an impartial arbitration board.

Fred Dearing said she had severe abdominal pains and a bad cough, delaying plans to depart for Madrid. The minister noted she had a difficult night, with illness blamed on the enthusiastic reception from Lisbon crowds.
Hanford MacNider, assistant secretary of war, told the National Manufacturers association in Chattanooga that U S munitions are aging and nearly useless. He urged immediate action to replace supplies and said Congress should authorize funding when it convenes in December.
In Cleveland on October 26, Mrs. Ann Morgan Gowans of Chicago testified in the estate case of the late Alphonse Morgan. Gowans, a former Ziegfeld chorus beauty and now married to a Chicago jazz band leader, stated she was Morgan’s common law wife from August of the prior year.
A verdict in Athens County Common Pleas favors Ida L. Putnam with Columbus Heating and Ventilating ordered to refund 250 dollars and pay 150 dollars in damages. A separate ruling overruled a motion for a new trial and ordered defendants to pay 100 dollars plus interest and costs.

Lorain Ohio October 26 special post of the Spanish War Veterans demands an apology from B McDonald state prohibition director for an alleged slur on the post patriotism after a request for an investigation into tear gas use by O E B Rankin state dry agent in raids. McDonald says Rankin was justified and implies the post cares more about Rankin than bootleggers prompting a post meeting.

Winter trade outlook is generally optimistic despite more adverse opinions than in 1926. About 38 percent see better current business, 27 percent no change, and 40 percent poor.
