Nelsonville Mayor outlines canal highway plans

Nelsonville mayor Miles Howe spoke to the Nelsonville Community Garden Club at Rose Cook's home on Poplar Street. He described improvements for the canal highway and suggested the city may assign a full-time worker in spring. Mayor Howe also shared experiences on the old Hocking Canal and pledged ongoing support for club projects.

Former Murray City Resident Is Dead

Funeral services were held at White Cottage today for Mrs. Katherine Thompson, 82, a native of Athens County and former Murray City resident. She died Sunday night after a three year illness at her White Cottage home. Survived by two sons James and John of Fastoria, a stepson Harl at home, sisters Mrs. Eph Huston The Plains and Mrs. Bette Shaw Doanville, brothers Isaac Six Oak Grove Ben Six Doanville, and Elmer Six Doanville, plus many grandchildren.

Nelsonville Social Notes Circle meets at Miller home

Nelsonville Circle No. 5 of the Woman's Society of Christian Service met Monday evening at Mrs. Phil Miller's home. Mrs. Frank O Mara led devotions and Mrs. Hube Mender played a piano solo. President Mrs. Thomas Spencer led the business meeting as the group discussed chapter five of the study book Wes Who Are Americans. The next meeting will be at Mrs. Spencer's Chestnut Street residence.

Nelsonville Rotary hears Lib ship engineer on Near East voyage

Badger Warren Jr., a Liberty ship junior engineer, described a seven month cruise starting in Baltimore and visiting Hull, Newcastle, the North Sea, Straits of Gibraltar, Mediterranean, Suez Canal, Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Arabian Sea, and Persian Gulf to Basra. He spoke at the Nelsonville Rotary Club about the voyage and its highlights.

Revival services will begin at Ashbury Methodist Church on the New Flymouth Charge. Rev King of Lancaster and Rev Chesser of Carbon Gate assist Rev Springer, pastor, in the meeting. Alimony Suit Filed in Gallia

Marie Gail Rob erts sues Myrl Benton Roberts in Gallia for alimony and custody relief alleging neglect cruelty and eviction due to rent non payment. They wed Jan 12 1927 and have four children ages seven months to six years. She seeks injunctions preventing disposal of property and molestation of herself and children.

Murray City Notes Honor Roll and Local Events

Murray City records the first six weeks honor roll across grades one through twelve with numerous students named for perfect attendance. Halloween parties are planned at the school and high school, with a masquerade event and free lunch. West Logan School publishes quarterly paper The West Logan Star

West Logan Grade School students publish the newspanel The West Logan Star under Mrs Turner for this year with English period letters to servicemen overseas. Third to fifth grades plan an aquarium exhibit with jar of minnows tadpates snails and girls craft dolls for display. Bird houses to be built, globes painted, and first two grades engage in clay molding and drawing while collecting stamps for the plaster round equipment.

Cpl Charles J Shirley 20 of 527 High St Nelsonville awarded Distinguished Unit Badge and bronze cluster for B 24 missions over Regensburg Germany Feb 25 and Ploesti Romania Apr 5. Discarded Material Is Burned at Mason War Plant

At West Virginia Ordnance Works near Pt Pleasant a large stack of discarded catch boxes was set ablaze by plant firemen. About 100 spectators watched as flames and smoke rose over Mason County. The burn was supervised by W E Wendt with helpers Langhorn Goodwin and Montgomery. A letter praising the plant and its workers accompanied the event, and a second Army Navy K Award was noted. The area held a half acre of boxes about 15 feet high, treated to prevent explosions.

Receipts From Paper Sale Distributed In Point Pleasant

The Salvage Committee distributed 271.40 to the Kiwanis Club for the swimming pool and 26 to Mayor T Caudill of Henderson for his Boy Scout Troop. About 300 will go to the Mason County War Fund when received. Funds come from August and September paper collections by salvage workers.

Hold Childers Rites in Irvine Ky Funeral Held for George W Childers

Funeral services for George W. Childers 86 who died Saturday at a son s home at Gallipolis Dam were held Tuesday afternoon in Irvine Kentucky with burial in the local cemetery.
