Nelsonville Mayor Plans Canal Highway Improvement

Nelsonville mayor J. Howe spoke to the Nelsonville Garden Club on canal road projects and spring staffing for the effort. He recounted experiences on the old Hocking Canal and pledged help. Members heard a note from Jimmie Linscott in New Guinea praising the club’s canal road beautification work.

Nelsonville Circle Meets for WSCS Social Notes

Nelsonville Circle No. 5 of the WSCS met Monday evening at Mrs. Phil Miller’s home. De votions were by Mrs Frank O'Mara. A piano solo was played by Mrs. Hube Mender. President Mrs. Thomas Spencer led the business meeting as the group discussed the fifth chapter of the study book We Who Are Americans. The next meeting will be at Mrs. Spencer’s on Chestnut Street.

Nelsonville Rotary speaker recalls Liberty ship voyage

Warren M. Badger junior engineer on a Liberty ship told Nelsonville Rotary last night about a seven month cruise to Basra in Iraq at the head of the Persian Gulf. He described ports visited from Hull to the Suez and Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden noting Arab terms for the convoy and his home background. The visit included guests George Carr and Lawrence Harden of Logan and plans for an inter city meeting in Logan next Jan. 22.

West School Activities at West Logan Grade School

West Logan Grade School offers numerous activities under Mrs Turner with sixth to eighth grades publishing The West Logan Star quarterly. Third to fifth grades, led by Mrs Sayre, exhibit an aquarium and collect items for display. Boys build bird houses while girls prepare a nationwide doll contest and displays. The latter includes jars with minnows tadpoles snails while fifth graders mold globe earths. All grades fundraise for student project.

Paper salvage distributed to community groups in Point Pleasant

The salvage committee distributed 271.40 to the Kiwanis Club for the swimming pool and 26 to Mayor T C Caudill of Henderson for his Boy Scout Troop. An estimated 300 will go to the Mason County War Fund when received. Money comes from paper sold by salvaging workers in August and September.

Funeral services for George W. Childers in Kentucky

Funeral services for George W. Childers 85 who died Saturday at a son's home at Gallipolis Dam were held in Irwine Kentucky Tuesday afternoon with burial in the Irwine cemetery. The Arnett Funeral Home ambulance transported the body to Irwine accompanied by Mr and Mrs W B Childers and Mr and Mrs G D Childers who were in Wine Shester for a visit with relatives.
