Two Parachutes From Plane at Carpenter Ohio

Army photographer Major John H. Van Cleave and Lt. S. R. Summers bailed out from an AT 11 Beechcraft when fuel ran low over Albany. They landed near Carpenter State Experimental Farm after the Beechcraft crashed into a barn on Vesta Robinsons farm, killing cows but not catching fire. Searchers, aided by Highway Patrol and Civil Air Patrol, guarded the wreckage through the night while Red Cross workers provided sandwiches and coffee.

Aberts Is Recovering After Wounding in France

Sergeant Aberts of Glouster Route 4, a coal miner with George M. Jones Corp, was evacuated to a field hospital after severe facial wounds in Normandy on June 18. Doctors removed steel from his cheek and treated with penicillin. He has served in the Army since October 1942. his parents are Mr and Mrs Edward Aberts and his brother Thomas, 24, is training at Camp Maxey.

Rome Canaan students are named on the honor roll after six weeks of school. Athens County reports one fifth of its $25,970 National War Fund drive, led by chairman C. G. Houck. Nelsonville shows half of its $3,000 goal. Norma Jean Dry Taken To Mt. Carmel Again

Norma Jean Dry, daughter of Claude Dry, is back at Mt. Carmel Hospital Columbus for surgery on her left leg due to a bone knitting failure. After the operation the leg will be cast and she will remain in the hospital about two weeks then home for twelve more weeks of coast. She was badly injured July 20 from a cliff fall while at East Hill. She previously stayed in the hospital seven weeks and then at home six weeks in a full body cast.
