Young Child Dies in Fire at Logan Home

Fire when kerosene can exploded near a kitchen stove destroyed the Logan house at 294 W Second St. about four pm Monday. Ten month old Robert Leslie Huffines, son of Clyde and wife Huffines, died. Firemen fought flames for nearly an hour. three explosions spread kerosene through the four room dwelling.

Logan Band Boosters Hold Meeting and Plans

Logan Band Boosters held their monthly meeting with potluck supper at 6 30 Monday in the band room led by new president Washington Bowers. Four motion pictures were shown by James Rutgers and Ruth Ann Norris played two piano solos. The November meeting is set for the fourth Monday at 6 30 with the usual potluck. In a separate incident a house fire killed a baby and burned the home contents. Leonard Funeral Directors will handle arrangements. Two other children, Kenneth Eugene ten and Rolland Sylvester seven, survived.

At the Elks meeting in Logan a life membership was given to James Eberst of Columbus. Brother of Ed and George Eberst of Logan, he was a longtime Logan barber and has worked at the Neil House in Columbus for 33 years. A luncheon followed with Howard Ralston and John Hammon in charge.

Operating room equipment remains intact. many instruments rechromed since 1944. Kitchen, nurses dining room need redecorating. heating and elevator in daily use with state inspections. X ray, electrical systems excellent. pharmacy well supplied. large stock of new items including sheets, gauze, napkins. Open daily for inspection.

Beef Cattle Men To Meet in Logan

Beef cattle men of Hocking County plan the first Beef Dinner at Macabee Hall Logan on Wednesday evening with reservations due by Wednesday morning. Prof L P McCann of Ohio State University will discuss beef cattle in 1945 and representatives from Columbus Livestock Producers Association and Pickaway County Livestock Cooperative Association will attend. A film titled Livestock and Meat will be shown. A committee may be formed to establish a beef cattle program for the county.

Rural-Urban Night Observed by Rotary

Logan Walter Leonard chaired a Rotary Rural-Urban Night with Dr. Olie Fink from Columbus as principal speaker. Fink, national Secretary of the Friends of the Land and former Ohio Department of Education conservation education director, outlined the three mill levy in her schools. The club drew guests including William Hahn, County Commissioner Frank St. Clair, Jack Dougherty, Claude Harsh, Paul Shaw, Rudolph Brandt, Kerwood Martin, Ray Blackstone, and others.

Logan Hahn and Paul Hann of Rockbridge and Lester Nihiser near Enterprise represented Hocking County at the State 4-H General Livestock Judging Contest in Columbus. With limited training the team did not place in the top five, but Hahn earned fourth place with a 252 score while the contest’s top individual scored 1281.

Car Damaged In Log a n Route 664 Crash

Sheriff Field Duffy and Deputy Waldron responded to a Route 664 crash two miles north of Logan. Charles Mohler of Junction City drove a car that struck an abutment and overturned. Vernon Angle and Paul Howdyshell were other occupants. no injuries reported, but the vehicle was badly damaged.

Two men fined after traffic obstruction plea

Logan residents John Norris Jr and Andrew Wilson were arrested by a highway patrolman for obstructing traffic on a county road near Route 33 in Green Township. They pled guilty before Mayor Denzil Weltner and were fined five dollars plus costs.

Fined and jailed for assault and battery case

Logan John Halliday of Glous her Rt 4 was arrested Saturday at 9 am by Sheriff Floyd Duffy and charged with assault and battery. Arraigned before Magistrate Frank St Clair he pleaded guilty, fined 25 dollars and costs, and sentenced to 80 days in the county jail where he remains incarcerated. Undergoes operation Logan Summers admitted to Doctors Hospital Columbus Sunday for a tonsillectomy Monday. He was accompanied by Mrs Summers and daughter Glenn and William Arnold.
