Twenty six Meigs County registrants left for Columbus to be inducted into military service. Leaders included Russell Roland Gibbs and several named registrants from Pomeroy Hebron Middleport and nearby towns. William Britton, in McMillan Hospital after a weekslong automobile crash, showed a good night and day improving. Doctors expect to start pelvic bone treatment sooner, and pneumonia appears to be resolving. Mrs Britton and Paula Jean returned home after visiting in Charleston. Mrs Britton will remain until Wednesday before heading back.

Audrey Lee Williams of Dunbar West Virginia a bombardier with the 23th Air Force in China served under Lt Gen Claire Chennault. He joined the first Tokyo raid with Major General James H Doolittle was shot down and captured. After 13 months as a Japanese prisoner he was exchanged on September 28. Williams has 43 months in the army including 37 months overseas and recently received medical discharge after hospitalization in Pennsylvania.
