A boiler blast in the power house killed a fireman at his post and toppled a railing as two men died and three others were badly injured. The incident sent debris flying and investigators worked to determine the cause.
Elmer Boggs aged about 20 is dead along with Clifford Wolfe 24 who acted as his father's substitute. Charlie Kettie is alive at noon after being crushed by falling timbers. David Peters weigh boss badly crushed by a falling tipple. Ora West miner caught by timbers with a broken leg and severe bruising.
A boiler in the power house at Sunday Creek mine No 204 blew up at 9 30 this morning causing a wrecked power house and tipples. Clifford Wolfe and Elmer Boggs were killed instantly with four others trapped beneath the ruins. Rescue efforts freed the injured and coroner J J Lane will hold an inquest this afternoon to determine the cause.
Dr. W F Mercer biology professor departs for Columbus to hear Frederick Bateson of Cambridge England lecture on Mendelian theory. The event highlights ongoing exchange on genetics and evolution in scientific circles.

At Amesville Ohio on Monday evening a brawl at the depot between Fred Beasley and Vincent Beebe brothers left Beasley with four broken teeth and multiple cuts. The Beebe brothers were fined 10 and 20 dollars respectively after a trial before Mayor Smith. Fred Beasley’s father filed a civil suit for 999 dollars for damages to his son, with A E Price of Athens representing the plaintiff.
Several prominent Coolville residents spent the day searching for a well known local man who disappeared last Thursday. His wife and two children are distressed, and family and friends have no leads. This morning helpers headed to Clarksburg to continue the search.
Two more transcripts from Justice McKee and Justice Dille docketed in common pleas court on Tuesday. The grand jury is to meet next Monday October 8 to begin deliberations. Cases include liquor offenses, assault, and the murder charge against Zane Koons of Deanville, who killed "Poke" Smith near the Tedrow joint.

Torch Ohio October 23. The snake tale remains a topic as residents recall a loose reptile near the fair grounds by Mr McLaughlin's farm. They note no one saw it after the fair and a local dog failed to alert its master. Children picked chestnuts nearby and no harm occurred.

Leonard A. Callamore of Nelsonville secured a license to wed Mias Ethel Robinson last week and asked Judge Lynch to keep the affair confidential. The judge allowed it but warned secrecy would fail, receiving a letter yesterday announcing the affair is public.
M N Linsecott left for Kansas Missouri Indiana and Illinois for an extended visit with relatives. Mrs Minnie Jackson of Chauncey visited Mrs Dye with her father Sterling Jackson accompanying her home. Mrs Bishop Given and son Norfolk Virginia visited here and left to see her uncle Riley Cole. Charlie Bahr Athens visited with his father in law Mr Wilson. John Voshel spent a week with his parents then returned home. Curtis of St Marys WV visited his uncle James Medley for two days. Will Bailey Delaware Ohio visited sister Annie Dunfee. Eta Kimes visited her parents at Chester then returned. Kate Cooley Kansas City Missouri and Mattie Cooley Minneapolis Minnesota visited cousin Emma James Saturday.

W H Adsetts was sentenced to death in Hong Kong for the murder of Gertrude Dayton at a hotel last August. Dayton, who formerly lived in Youngstown Ohio, was the victim. The verdict was delivered in a Hong Kong court, with the case described by Associated Dailies Telegram.
